APARTHEID IN SOUTH AFRICA SINCE 1948-1994

Apartheid is the political policy of racial segregation,in Afrikaans means"Apartness"and it was pioneered in 1948 by South African government National party when it came to power.

Politically,apartheid laws were classified people according to three major groups,whites,coloured and blacks, these laws determined were members of each group could live,what jobs they could hold and what type of education they could received furthermore,these laws prohibited social contact between races,segregated public facilities and they were denied the opportunity to vote individuals.

Apartheid were considered communist and were subjected to prison as an implied law in the 17th century with start of the slave trade when estimated 25 Million blacks were sold into slavery over a period of 12 centuries,in 1948 the South African government actually passed apartheid laws as it included the "prohibition of mixed marriage Act"of 1949 then in 1950 was the era of "Hendrik Frensch Verwoerd" as well as it was the population Act 1950

Economically,South Africa's economy was robust during the "World War II" because of the allies needed for raw materials from South Africa in 1948 postwar economic contraction brought the whites unemployment,this sent shockwaves through the white community,particularly among white South Africans in the lowest economic strata who feared.

That companies would replace them with lower wage earning black workers,this resulted in a knee jerk reaction among the all white election restructured the organisation of economic opportunity and apartheid legislation lacked the trademark of systematic exploitation of native Africans

Socially,informal settlements or townships outside of Cape Town,South African despite the poor conditions of informal residencial,there were significant advantages such as employment and access to health and cities to be gained from living near large Towns and cities,the incentive to live in places like crossroad was immense.

Bantu education was established to train and fit black Africans for their role,the Act passed in 1953 it was more than segregation classrooms,it prescribed inferior education for black African children.

End of apartheid-since 1993 Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela and de Klerk immediately began working together for a peaceful transition to democracy,for efforts,they won the '1993 Nobel Peace Prize" in 1994 under the leadership of Mandela,the ANCE 'African National Congress" won South Africa first Multiracial elections which also elevated Nelson Mandela to the presidency and he administered the gradual dismantling of apartheid and devoted resources In 1996 WWW.Blackhistory4schools.Com
